U.S. Public Law 103-150

Legal Foundation

Whereas prior to the arrival of the first Europeans in 1778, the Native Hawaiian people lived in a highly organized, self-sufficient, subsistent social system based on communal land tenure with a sophisticated language, culture, and religion.

On January 17, 1893, The Kingdom of Hawaii was illegally overthrown in a coup d’état against Queen Liliuokalani and her government, resulting in the suppression of the inherent sovereignty of the Native Hawaiian people.

Nation of Hawaii’s growth has been predicated on a legal framework that spans over 25 years. Our continued pursuit for justice stands on this structure as a cornerstone of our mission.
