<h2>Our History</h2>
<p>The Nation of Hawai‘i exists to restore and uphold the identity, rights, and national continuity of the Native Hawaiian people. Prior to the 1893 overthrow, Hawai‘i functioned as a highly organized, self-sufficient society rooted in communal land tenure (pre-Māhele) and a sophisticated cultural and spiritual tradition.</p>
Kumulipo
Origin, genesis, source of life, mystery. The Kumulipo is an 18th-century chant that records the beginnings of the Hawaiian world. This chant remains as an authentic work or primitive literature and is one of the principal sources of information on Hawaiian mythology, early culture, political structure, and way of life for the Hawaiian people.

<h2>Legal Foundation</h2>
<p>The Nation’s modern restoration is grounded in the historical continuity of the Hawaiian nation and principles of international law. In 1993, the United States acknowledged the illegal overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawai‘i and issued a formal apology to Native Hawaiians through U.S. Public Law 103-150.</p>

Known as the Apology Resolution, U.S. Public Law 103-150 is a Joint Resolution of the U.S. Congress, adopted in 1993, that acknowledges the illegal overthrow of the Kingdom of Hawaii, and has been a major impetus for the Hawaiian sovereignty movement.

<p>Pu‘uhonua O Waimānalo serves as the land base of a developing sovereign Hawaiian nation. From this place, we advance nation-building in practice—protecting ʻāina, strengthening community wellbeing, establishing governance capacity, and transmitting cultural identity to future generations in accordance with our spiritual and traditional beliefs, customs, language, and social institutions.</p>
Nation of Hawaii Living Lab
In partnership with MIT Researchers, the Nation of Hawaii Living Lab will be a user-centered, open-innovation ecosystem, operating in a territory, applying concurrent research and innovation processes within a public-private-people partnership to induce co-creation by integrating research and innovation processes.
Transitional Provision, Article 17
61. Transition. In the event that a sovereign entity, i.e. a sovereign nation of Hawaii, is established for the benefit of native Hawaiians prior to the expiration and/or termination of this lease term (55 years lease term), Lessor may give due consideration to transferring and/or conveying the premises herein to such newly established sovereign entity to be used for the benefit of native Hawaiians — March 29, 2001
